Cabernet goes well with beef, lamb and goose, especially when cooked with herbs. It also is a great match for brie, cheddar cheese and chocolate
I want an interesting and lively wine for an upcoming party.
You might be able to find Hardy Shiraz. It goes for around $20. Try http://www.wine-search.com for locating stores in your area.
I prefer a sweet red wine; Port is about as sweet as I could go in a red wine.
If you want something affordable, go with Smoking Loon Merlot.
"This Merlot is dark garnet in color and has aromas of fresh basil, blueberries, and Bing cherries. With good richness without being too heavy on the palate, the flavors of fresh cherry pie, sweet plum, and soft cinnamon spiked cranberry dressing finishing with notes of rich, vanilla French oak and delicate cherry and strawberry flavors.
This wine is packed with flavor yet still has a delicate body. This is a versatile wine that can be served with bruschetta over toasted French bread or cherry preserves over Brie served with water crackers as an appetizer. You could serve this wine with salmon over wild rice with toasted almonds, grilled chicken on top of a spinach salad with walnuts and dried cranberries, or thyme roasted pork chops over mashers."
I need a good recipe for making wine out of home picked grapes! That will better in time.
grapes
sugar
water
yeast
1 slice dried bread
Choose ripe Wild Grapes, Pick them in clusters on the stems, bring them home and wash them in cold water leaving them on the stems.
Place grapes with stems on, in water just to cover, in an enamel or non metallic kettle.
Bring just to a boil, simmer till skins on the grapes pop, Mash the grapes in the water, Strain juice into a non- metallic container, through several layers of cheese cloth or a clean dish towel to remove grape pulp, seeds and stems.
Reserve the juice, Throw away stems and pulp.
Measure the juice.
Add equal amounts of sugar and water, (ae: 1 gal juice, 1 gal sugar, 1 gal water) put wine mixture in clean crock.
spread or sprinkle 1 cake or one pkg dry yeast on dry bread crust and allow it to float on top of the wine mixture, cover crock with a clean dish towel, let ferment for 3 days, strain wine, into non metallic container such as an enamel canner kettle, wash the crock and be sure to rinse it very well, put wine back into the crock, allow to ferment for 4 days, stirring every day and skimming the foam from top, strain the wine again as before, wash the crock again, put wine back in the crock.
allow to ferment 4 days, stirring and skimming every day.
Strain the wine once more, this time it is ready to bottle.
The older it gets the better.

Men: Mr Lester, Mr Becket,Mr Lennox,Mr Standish and Mr Weiss
City: New Orleans, Seattle,Milwaukee,Denver and Dalla
City no. 2: San Francisco, Houston, Atlanta, Boston and Los Angeles
Clues:
1. Mr Weiss has always lived in the south, but Mr Standish never has
2. The Man from New Orleans, the man from Denver and Mr Lester all would have liked to have lived in San Francisco
3. Mr Becket has not lived in Milwaukee or New Orleans
4. Neither Mr Lennox or Mr Standish has ever lived in a city with a two-word name
5. Neither Mr Lennox nor Mr Weiss has ever lived on the west coast but one of them has always lived in Texas
I'm not exactly sure what the difference is between City 1 and City 2. My guess is that City 1 is where the men are FROM and City 2 is where the men now LIVE.
Lester is from Milwaukee and lives in Los Angeles
Becket is from Seattle and lives in San Francisco
Lennox is from Dallas and lives in Houston
Standish is from Denver and lives in Boston
Weiss is from New Orleans and lives in Atlanta
It would take a lot to explain how I came up with the answers. But, I can tell you the way I work on these kinds of problems is to create a grid. In this case, I started by listing all of names down one side. Then, I listed the cities across the top.
After setting up the grid you read each clue and start marking "+" and "-" in the grid boxes depending on what the clues tells you. For example, the first clue says Mr. Weiss has always lived in the south. There are only two cities in the south, New Orleans and Atlanta. So, I put a "+" in New Orleans and Atlanta. This means I also put a "-" in every other city for Mr. Weiss. I also put a minus in New Orleans and Atlanta for every other name since no one else but Mr. Weiss can be from or live in either of those cities.
Similarly, in the fifth clue we are told Mr. Lennox or Mr. Weiss has always lived in Texas. From the first clue we know Mr. Weiss has always lived in the south, that means Mr. Lennox would have to be the one who has always lived in Texas. There are only two cities in Texas - Dallas and Houston. So, I marked a "+" in Dallas and Houston for Mr. Lennox and a "-" in every other city. Then I put a "-" in Dallas and Houston for every other name.
You can read the rest of clues and mark the boxes. Another key to remember is that once you have assigned someone to a city, you need to mark everyone else with a "-" for that city as well.
