what is cabernet flour and/or wine flour?

Posted by admin on September 30, 2008 under cabernet

Also, a substitute flour for a recipe.

Wine flour is a powdered substance made from the skins of red wine grapes after they have been fermented into wine (these leftover skins are called pomace). They are dried and then grinded into powder. The powder is the mixed with different normal flours. Some say it can produce a lighter taste in baked goods and pasta but the real point in using the product is to get the nutritional benefits of red wine without having to drink a glass everyday. Red Wine contains Resveratrol, which can reduce Cardiovascular Disease and other heart ailments. So using Wine flour gives you the same health benefits as drinking wine. Cabarnet flour is simply wine flour made from specifically cabarnet grapes.

Looking for a store that carries "virgin vines" shiraz wine?

Posted by admin on September 30, 2008 under shiraz

I received a coupon in the mail for Virgin Vines brand wine and I was reading about it on the internet. I would like to try the Shiraz (seeing as how I have the coupon), but I can't find a list of distributors. Does anyone know which stores in southern California carry it????

Do you chill a white merlot?

Posted by admin on September 30, 2008 under merlot

I wanted to serve a white merlot with dinner tonight. I am new to drinking wines and still don't know a lot about it. Should I chill this white merlot, and will it mix well with a light chicken pasta?

I would, not not icy cold. Serve it in medium-sized glasses. This is a good choice with chicken or seafood. If you are making a hearty dish like roast chicken with potatoes or seafood lasagne, I suggest a red, actually. For pasta dishes, go with a sauvignon blanc. Stay away from Italian whites, too dry.

How do I make grape jam with real grapes?

Posted by admin on September 30, 2008 under grapes

I have green and purple grapes the normal ol' ones at the grocery store.

EASY GRAPE JAM

8 c. grapes
6 c. sugar

Mash grapes. Add sugar. Bring mixture to boil and boil for 25 minutes. Put through sieve and pour into sterilized jars. Seal.

GRAPE JAM

Take 1 cup grapes to 1 cup sugar. Boil 20 minutes. Then rub through sieve and fill jars. Don't seal until next morning. One peck of grapes makes 10 pints of jam. Old fashioned recipe!

Check the sites below…….it will be yummy whichever you choose……… Invite me over, I'll bring the peanut butter :-)
